About The Ranches

Amidst spacious, rolling meadows, both the Old Ranch and New Ranch accommodate the overnight needs of up to 75 people in a dormitory-style bunkhouse. Popular for family reunions and weddings these facilities have a large kitchen with commercial appliances. Picnic tables and a large centralized fireplace adorn the great room; bunk beds line the open loft above. Differences between the two facilities are few but significant. The New Ranch, open year-round is nestled among the trees at the edge of a great meadow; this facility is insulated and offers sweeping views from the upper decks. Formerly the barn of a sheep ranch in the early 1900s, the seasonal Old Ranch overlooks a vast meadow and forested hillsides. Exposed beams and a large barn door add to the charm of this historic, spacious, and rustic venue.

Each Ranch includes:

  • Up to 100 day use guests or 75 overnight guests
  • Parking and day-use passes for up to 30 vehicles
  • Use of indoor and outdoor area with bunk beds, kitchen, 2 restrooms, fire place, and picnic tables (shower facilities are available at the campground)
  • Access to space from 4:00 pm on day of arrival through 12:00 pm on day of departure
  • One rack of firewood, when burning is permitted
  • No minimum stay required
  • Option to add catering, services, and event rentals
  • Additional inclusions and catering minimums may apply to some weekend stays at Old Ranch only

Q:        How can I make reservations?

Guests can complete an event request form HERE or call Silver Falls Lodge & Conference Center at 503 – 873 – 3113. A representative from our group event sales team will respond promptly and work with guests to tailor a rental package that best meets each group’s needs. All phone and online inquires will be responded to in the order that they were received. 


Q:        What is the cost of The Ranches?

Rates vary depending on the type of event, time of year, and services required. A rate chart is posted here https://silverfallslodge.com/old-new-ranches/ In keeping with OPRD’s mission to provide affordable experiences, the facilities will have special low nonprofit rates and varied rates for different spaces, seasons, and days of the week. OPRD will continue to offer a variety of other affordable group options at Silver Falls and other parks in the region. Visit oregonstateparks.org for other group options.


Q:        Why did rates increase in 2019?

The old rates — which had not increased in 10 years — were far below industry standard and were not keeping pace with the costs of maintaining these facilities. This created a backlog of maintenance and repairs. Increasing rates means we can address immediate needs, such as repairing and adding lighting, deep cleaning and restoring windows. A portion of revenue will be earmarked for an ongoing maintenance fund to maintain, improve and restore these popular spaces on a timely basis.


Q:        Are The Ranches going to be sold?

No, The Ranches are not for sale.  The Ranches are an important part of the park and will always remain open to the public and owned by the people of Oregon as part of the state park system.


Q:        Are there any changes for customers who have rented The Ranch facilities previously?

Silver Falls Recreation Company (SFRC), which also manages the Lodge & Conference Center, is now also managing daily operation of The Ranches. Customers will notice increased service levels and more options, including:

  • 24/7 customer service
  • Ability to place a 25 percent deposit at time of booking, with full payment due three weeks prior to arrival
  • Option to book any time throughout the year for up to a year in advance (a change from OPRD’s rolling 9-month booking window)
  • Venue coordinators that help tailor a package to fit each group’s specific needs
  • Option to purchase catering through the conference center.


Q:        Will there be any changes to the facilities?

The facilities will largely remain the same, though customers will notice maintenance an amenity improvements as time goes on.


Q:        Why did OPRD decide to contract daily management of The Ranches?

In a time when both costs and attendance are rising, it makes sense to work with Silver Falls Recreation Company (SFRC), a trusted partner with a track record of enhancing the park. SFRC has the tools and experience to offer services that OPRD simply cannot match. Additionally, contracting management of these facilities frees up park staff time to focus on other critical areas of the park.

OPRD has been using concessionaires for more than 20 years in many of its operations—a common practice among national and state parks to balance resource management and guest service. Since SFRC took over operations in 2013, The Lodge & Conference Center has increased the amenities, service, and food offerings at Silver Falls State Park. We look forward to expanding this partnership to include The Ranches.


Q:        Are pets allowed?

The New Ranch is now pet-friendly when guests comply with the pet policy, including a $25 per pet/per night fee.  Please contact Silver Falls Lodge & Conference Center for details. Pets continue to be prohibited at the Old Ranch.


Q:        Will groups need to provide proof of insurance?

In alignment with OPRD’s Special Use Permit Process, typical use of these spaces for park activities will not require groups to obtain insurance.  However, any out of the norm activities or additions such as use of outside vendors/catering, temporary installation of a stage or event tent, etc. will require proof of insurance.  Please contact Silver Falls Lodge and Conference Center for details.


Q:        Is there a catering requirement?

Silver Falls Lodge and Conference Center is pleased to offer a range of catering options for pick up, delivery, or servicing at the Ranches. On selected dates there may be catering minimums. At all other times groups currently have the option of booking catering through our in-house team, providing their own food, or using the outside caterer of their choice with adequate proof of insurance.  A $25 delivery fee may apply to in-house catering requests under $250.


Q:        Is tent camping permitted at The Ranches?

Tent camping will continue to be allowed at both Ranches.  Ten (10) tent maximum in mowed areas only and use of stakes 6” or less only.


Q:        Are there any restrictions about flames?

Fires are only permitted in existing fire places and BBQs, or with use of catering cambros.  No tiki torches, candles, incense, or portable fire pits are permitted.


Q:        Are there any restrictions to decorations?

Groups are expected to return the Ranches into the condition they were upon arrival for staff to sanitize for the next group’s use. This includes returning all tables to their original location. In an effort to protect these cherished spaces, no use of nails, tacks, staples, wall tack, or duct tape is allowed.  (We recommend using Command style strips or low-tact blue tape).  Please refrain from hanging items from trees and use of glitter.


Q:        Can we use ground stakes for things like tents and lawn games?

No stakes longer than 6” are permitted due to underground piping.  Event tents should be set up using water barrels or blocks.


Q:        Are towels and linens included?

Bed,bath and table linens are not included with any rentals. Some table linens may be included with the addition of catering services through Silver Falls Lodge & Conference Center. Please inquire for details. 


Q:        How do I purchase fire wood?

The first rack of firewood is included in your rental.  Additional wood may be pre – ordered through the Conference Center at $75.00 per rack. 


Q:        What is the check in/check out process?

Group leaders should check in and out at the Conference Center registration booth, located 1.5 miles past the campground and Ranch turnoff.  Groups will be issued keys and parking permits upon check in.
